Afganistan Protest
TROOPS HOME NOW!
Protesting the U.S. Occupation of Afghanistan Wednesday, October 7, 2009 4-5:00 PM at Meridian and Telegraph Road (in front of Dennys)
Join Veterans for Peace and the Whatcom Peace & Justice Center to observe the 8th Anniversary of the US invasion of Afghanistan. At this time when the war is ramping-up and casualties are rising, it is imperative that we continue to make known our opposition. We will bring some signs and banners, but feel free to bring your own. Yesterday, sixty-five people were arrested in front of the White House.
A Veterans for Peace spokesperson consisely articulated the demands of the Peace Movement:
A withdrawal of all U.S. troops from Afghanistan; an end to the illegal bombing with US drones, including in neighboring Pakistan; and the closing of the Bagram prison and an end to indefinite detention and torture. We call for an end to the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan so that our resources can be used for life-sustaining actions including the funding and rebuilding of Afghanistan’s and Iraq’s infrastructure, medical assistance to Afghans and Iraqis, and poverty reduction programs in the United States and worldwide. We continue to call for accountability for those who have committed war crimes.
