No BP Bailout Rally
MovOn.org Bellingham Council is staging a rally on Saturday, June 12th, at 12:00 Noon, at the corner of Railroad Av. & Maple St., by the Saturday Market. We demand that BP bear ALL of the cost of the spill, and the cost of making the region whole again. The American taxpayer must not be burdened by this preventable catastrophe. This oil spill, like the economic disaster in 2008, was made a much higher risk by the excessive influence by corporations on the agencies that regulate them.
We will have a petition to Larsen telling him to support legislation that forces BP to bear all of the costs, eliminates the revolving door between major corporations and Washington and creates campaign finance reform that eliminates the insane power of corporate lobbyists.
We also will have information available to people about our campaign to eliminate corporate influence, and the bills now in Congress to make BP liable for damages, along with Larsen, Murray and Cantwell's phones & emails.
We are asking other groups to join us in the rally. We invite any group that has a message regarding the BP spill, or the effect of corporate influence in Washington on our democracy, to participate. If you want to participate, if you want to speak at the event, or if you have information to pass out, let me know, Ellen McDermott, (360) 738-8070 or ellen.mcdermott@gmail.com.
