Odd years are for local elections. This year we have at least two open seats on the county council, which should make those races lively.

2008 GENERAL ELECTION OBSERVATION REPORTS

11/20/08 -- 88% Returns. 88% Counted -- last week. As of Monday evening 101,692 Ballots had been received (88.2% of 115, 314 registered voters); and 101,354 ballots, 87.9% have been counted. (Note: registered voters for this election was frozen on Election Day. All percentages are per "registered voters.").

Canvassing Board Report

11/19/08 - Canvassing Board work session.

The three-member "Canvassing Board" met today to resolve all accumulated issues that the staff could not resolve. The "Canvassing Board" has state-delegated authority to conduct each election (and has the only authority to void any ballot or vote). Members include S. Forslof (Auditor's Office), S. Crawford (County Council) and R. Buckingham (Prosecuting Attorney). Canvassing Boards are public. Today's issues include signature-match, and ballot issues.

It's not over. There is still ballot processing by limited staff on a restricted intermittent schedule. This morning half-a-dozen temporary workers and staff were re-checking and duplicating ballots that caused counting-machine rejections. These are mostly weak voter corrections (line out name) that resulted in machine "over-vote" rejections.
