Comprehensive Plan for Bird Flu Epidemic
WHEREAS the H5N1 virus (i.e. “Bird Flu”) is spreading rapidly across the earth; and
WHEREAS it is reasonable to believe that the Bird Flu may spread to Whatcom County; and
WHEREAS there are legitimate concerns that H5N1 may mutate to a form that can be transmitted between humans;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Whatcom County Democrats (WCDCC) support the creation of and funding for a comprehensive plan to protect Whatcom County residents, in the occurrence of any epidemic, that defends civil rights, provides care for those who are ill, and limits the number of individuals who are exposed to the virus; and
THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the planning process should include participation by public and private health professionals, elected representatives, and other citizens.
