In their endorsement of McShane, Mann, Weimer and Caskey-Schreiber for County Council, the Bellingham Herald wrote: "There hasn't been a more important local election."

We agree. That's why this year the Whatcom Democrats are pulling out all the stops. We've raised $22,000 and we're spending it well in order to win ALL our local elections. 

Most at stake are four seats on the Whatcom County Council. Our opponents are breaking records in taking big checks from people with big agendas. Just last week McShane's opponent, Kathy Kershner, reported a $20,000 contribution from Nick Kaiser, a wealthy investor with a long record of trying to end Emergency Medical Service in Whatcom County. Mann's opponent, Mary Beth Teigrob, took a $10,000 check from LuAnne Van Werven, chair of the Republican party and part-owner of a local gravel strip mining company. Van Werven wants to go back to the days when she could strip mine farmland for gravel.

We're in economic hard times and we need steady, thoughtful people steering the  county ship. We also face difficult growth planning decisions and we need people who are going to put the community first, so that we have working farms, clean drinking water and strong local businesses.

While they have big money, we have great candidates and YOU: people who care about this community! This week we need YOU to add your voice! Our candidates are exceptional, strong on the issues, smart, well-spoken, and they've run great campaigns. Now it's our turn to deliver the voters. The Whatcom Democrats are committed to phoning our base and reminding them to turn their ballots back in.
