Final Weekend of Signature Gathering for Initiatives
Initiative campaigns for the two ballot measures endorsed by the Whatcom Democrats – 1068 and 1098 – are headed for the final week of signature gathering. All petitions are due in the Secretary of State's office by July 2, and campaigns are asking people with petitions to turn them in by no later than Monday, June 28. Any petitions may be returned to the Whatcom Dems office.
Yes on 1098 campaign has reported that they have gathered 285,000 signatures and needed 241,000 legal ones. They hope to hit 325,000 before it's over so they make sure they have enough and can avoid the painful line by line checking of signatures.
The 1068 campaign reported that some 80,000 petitions were inserted in The Stranger weekly newspaper June 23, in hopes that readers will sign, circulate, and turn in the petitions.
