Washington Approves Marriage Equality

On February 15, Governor Chris Gregoire signed legislation making same-sex marriage legal in Washington. So far New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire and Iowa, plus Washington D.C. have passed similar laws. The law takes effect on June 7th, but opponents of the law have filed Referendum 73 in order to try to overturn it. If they collect 120,577 valid voter signatures by June 6th, the law will be put on hold and will appear on the November ballot.
